[Archive] Multi Core

Message by Gethyn Lewis:
Hi Everybody,
Can SPIS be compiled to run on Multiple Core processors? It runs quite slowly on my single core windows machine, but I have access to a new 32 core machine that would be great if SPIS could use all the cores.
Any help is always very much appreciated. Thanks,
Gethyn

Hi,
SPIS is not parallelized, but some parts are multi-threaded. It is particularly the case for the particle pusher.
There must be a parameter named “pusherNb” or something close in the “plasma” tab of the global parameter window.
If you have a 32 core machine, you can put it to 32 (or 64 for the processors supporting hyperthreading).
