[Archive] Variable time step for absolute/differential charging

Message by Enrico Sain:
Hello,
I would like to study the differential charging of a dielectric surface with respect to ground or other surrounding conducting surfaces of a S/C in a PEO environment. Since differential charging has a different timescale (tens of seconds) with respect to absolute charging (tens of ms), is it possible to automatically adapt the timestep to the two different phenomena in order to reduce the total computational time?
Any hint would be really appreciated!
Best Regards,
Enrico

Hi Enrico,
nothing like that today (you can always hack the code for that).
But much better in the next version: automatic variable time step with an implicit solver (stabilisation of absolute charging with large steps for differential)

Hi Jean-François,
thank you for your reply. Is this new version going to be released soon? Even if it’s not completely stable, is it possible to try it (at my own risk!)?I really need to model differential charging for my project and unfortunately I don’t have many other options (I can try to hack the code but I think it would take a lot of time since I’m a java/jython newbie). For my part I can help you testing the sofware if needed!
